Mark your calendar, and we will see you there! 🚨 We hacked Harvard University. 😈 No, not like that — we hacked at HackHarvard 2024! 😇 Shaheer Khan, Keshav Babu, and I had an incredible weekend in Cambridge + Boston for HackHarvard, where we built elo-fi: an ELO-based WiFi system designed to tackle bad actors on public networks. Our vision was a safer, smarter WiFi for everyone, from café owners to city residents. We got to code, collaborate, and create something meaningful while soaking in the energy of the Cambridge and Boston area. We also explored downtown Boston, tried some amazing food (pizza and ramen 🍕🍜), and even got a tour of the Harvard campus. A huge shout out to the HackHarvard team for organizing such an event. Thanks for the warm hospitality over the weekend! #HackHarvard I Code’d for Good with JPMorganChase! 🎉 This past weekend, I had the amazing opportunity to participate in JPMorganChase’s Code for Good hackathon, led by Jake Wilkerson. This unique event paired developers with non-profits to create tech solutions that make a difference. My team (Elharith Madani, Arturo Muñoz, Shivanshi Tandon, Alana Gorukanti, and Emerson Frasure) and I had the privilege of working with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), a non-profit dedicated to supporting NYC’s artistic community. We built an alumni networking platform to connect LMCC’s past and present artists, fostering collaboration and helping them continue their creative impact. 🎨 What was my favorite part? The highlight for me was combining my tech skills with a meaningful purpose. Building something that will genuinely support artists and seeing how technology can bridge communities was both fulfilling and eye-opening. Why does giving back matter to me? Using tech to create positive change is something I’m passionate about. There’s a unique satisfaction in knowing that my work can extend beyond code and spreadsheets to support real people and communities—especially the artists who bring so much inspiration to our world. How did I do GOOD? Our team’s platform will serve as a resource for LMCC’s artists to stay connected, collaborate, and grow. Knowing our work will help sustain a thriving arts community in Lower Manhattan makes me proud of the positive impact we made in just a short time. I’m also grateful to connect with inspiring professionals at JPMorganChase, including Jake Wilkerson, Arun singh, Matthew Penza, and Michelle B., who shared valuable insights into their careers, technology, and the company’s values. Thank you to everyone at JPMorganChase and my fellow participants for such a welcoming and inspiring event. Here’s to more opportunities to #CodeForGood and make a meaningful impact through technology! #JPMorganChase 🌟 Reflecting on my time at Configura this past summer! 🌟 I had the incredible opportunity to work directly with a client on a project that produced real deliverables—an experience that challenged my problem-solving skills and sharpened my ability to read and analyze code. Big thank you to Jeffry Marculaitis Jr and Kevin Johnson for this opportunity, and to Colin Kopka and Kathryn Cook for their invaluable mentorship along the way. Your support made a huge impact on my growth as a developer. What truly stood out to me was Configura's people-first culture—everyone was so welcoming, and it created an environment where I could really thrive. One of the highlights? I even got to do some fencing on my last day—definitely a unique way to cap off the experience! 🤺 Feeling grateful for the journey and excited for what's next! 💻🚀 Next week, we’re hosting the Red Bull X Imagine Software Club at MSU event for Red Bull Basement on Wednesday, October 2nd at 7:15 PM in STEM 1130. This semester, RecycleMe tackled the problem of incorrectly recycled material and incentivizing consumers to recycle correctly. By creating a mobile application that can determine whether a piece of trash should be recycled and provide relevant nuance, they succeeded in making an MVP in an ambitious 90-day timeline. Congratulations to the team for making an awesome app and learning a lot on the journey! Team Leads: Christian Wilkins, Areeb Islam Members: Gokul Sankaravadivelu, Lewi A., Mohamed Ahmed, Siddarth Akalankam, Kaustubh Siriki #Sustainability #TechForGood #CircularEconomy I brought together 50+ talented builders for 3 hours every week to work on their ideas at Michigan State University. We called it 021 @ msu and last Sunday was our final demo day. This is what some of our builders have been up to this semester: Soami Kapadia is building his own open source pre-trained GPT from scratch and other viral projects Siddhartha Bhattacharya is building decentralized federated learning to democratize AI. Keshav Babu is building an app to predict parking enforcement on campus and reduce tickets. Christian Wilkins is building a financially incentivizing recycling app, a cross platform social media post generator, and an AI note taking assistant. Aidan Gollan is building a website to turn sentences into Spotify playlists and a shared note taking platform. Many had never written a single line of code outside of classes. By the end, everyone had some tangible project they were proud of. It is immensely rewarding to be a part of a group where people learn and build together. Thanks for the inspiration buildspace, Socratica, Startup Exchange, V1 Michigan. Imagine automating your meeting notes with just one click! 🤯 This was the problem I set out to solve with Notelify, a project team at AI Club at MSU. We created a web application that listens through your microphone, apps (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or YouTube), or both at the same time. Next, it takes that live audio feed and turns the important takeaways into a concise set of bullet points. We didn't just build a tool; we created a gateway to efficient meetings, winning us the Best Use of AI prize at AI Club at MSU's final presentations! Big shoutout to my amazing team: Mohammad Alshaikhusain, Arafat Khan, and Devansh Tayal. Your collaboration turned our vision into reality! Feel free to give it a try during your next lecture or zoom call! 👉 https://www.notelify.co/ Is AI a Threat to Humanity? Not enough is said about AI ethics and safety. However, it was amazing to see that AI Club at MSU is taking initiative to lead the way with a workshop platforming these discussions and ideas. I had the honor of attending and participating in discussions on AI's rapid expansion, its implications for education, the intellectual property concerns it raises, and much more. A big thank you to Daniel Helo Puccini and Uzair Mohammed for creating such a thought-provoking presentation. This workshop gives me hope. Hopefully we can continue to have future discussions of the philosophy and ethics of AI and technology. Such insights will lead us to create a better, safer, and less exploitative future for all. #AIethics #TechForGood #FutureOfAI Did you know 75% of all waste is recyclable? Unfortunately, one in four items are wrongly recycled because of contamination or ignorance. Even though some people mean well, this result is leading to recycling centers having to take wrongly recycled material back to landfill and even contaminating entire batches of correctly recycled material. This semester, with Imagine Software Club at MSU, I was able to lead a team of amazing developers in creating a solution to this problem. We made RecycleMe, a mobile app that users can quickly snap a picture of what they would like to recycle. Using the power of AI and data, it can return an accurate result on the best way to get rid of it. A huge thanks to Zane Aridi for working with me to bring this idea to Imagine Software Club at MSU! I would not have been able to create this app without my amazing team: Areeb Islam, Gokul Sankaravadivelu, Siddarth Akalankam, Lewi A., Mohamed Ahmed, and Kaustubh Siriki. Thank you all for communicating and collaborating with me this semester! We are very close to releasing a test version for iOS users, so if you'd be looking to try it out or learn more, feel free to reach out! #recycling #sustainability #mobileapp #AI #innovation #teamwork #MSU Last weekend I had a blast at MHacks x Google! 🚀 This hackathon, I decided to embrace the KISS philosophy—Keep It Simple, Stupid. In addition, I focused on creating something that would be useful to myself and hopefully others! Recently, I've hated writing out different post drafts for multiple platforms when I'm posting the same content. However, the way many people present themselves on Twitter or Instagram is much different than LinkedIn. So, my team and I developed a solution: a seamless application designed for crafting platform-optimized posts, complete with media integration and optional context enhancements. I also found it to be a great way to promote organizational events using a flyer image! (Thanks AI Club at MSU for the flyer to test it on! 🤗) It's powered by Google's Gemini 1.5 Pro and exploring its vast context capabilities and advanced prompting features was a game-changer! Huge shoutout to Gokul Sankaravadivelu, Devansh Tayal, and Arafat Khan—I had lot of fun working with you all and it was awesome turning this idea into something spectacular. Looking forward to MHacks 17—here’s to another amazing hackathon! Try what we built yourself! Let me know what you think of it! 👇 https://lnkd.in/g6JAc89d #MHacks #Google #Hackathon #Teamwork #SoftwareDevelopment #SocialMediaTools 🚀 A Journey of Discovery at Entrepreneur Power Hour! This past weekend, something incredible happened. I stepped into a realm where innovation meets impact — the Entrepreneur Power Hour at the University of Michigan. Here’s why it’s a game-changer: ✨ The Spark of Community: Spearheaded by Tommy Potter, it wasn’t just an event; it was a congregation of minds poised to redefine the future. This wasn’t networking; it was heart-connecting with people who envision a world where ideas transform into tangible solutions. 🧠 Wisdom in Every Conversation: Imagine a place where every dialogue propels you forward, where each story told is a seed for your growth. That was the essence of this gathering. A melting pot of insights from seasoned creators and budding innovators alike. 🔮 The Future Looks Bright: Walking away from this experience, one thing was crystal clear — I can’t wait to dive back into this ocean of possibilities. The seeds of tomorrow were planted in those very rooms, and I’m here for the harvest that’s to come. 🌟 The Ripple Effect: Here’s where you come in. These gatherings aren’t just about those who attend. They’re about spreading the fire, igniting the spark of creation and collaboration across continents and beyond. A standing ovation to Tommy Potter 🙌 - Your vision has sparked a beacon for many. Thank you for inviting me to this awesome opportunity! To my LinkedIn family: If there’s one takeaway for you, it’s this — Find your tribe. Engage in conversations that challenge and change you. And when you do, magic happens. Have you experienced a moment that felt like a turning point in your journey? Drop your stories below! 🌱 Let’s turn the comments into our own digital power hour. Share. Inspire. Grow. P.S. Thanks Frita Batidos for the great food! #CommunityBuilding #MichiganEntrepreneurs Last week, I stepped into a convergence of minds at the Slalom x LinkedIn x Imagine Software Club at MSU event. 🚀 (And what I learned could change the game for you too.) Bryan Kulczycki and Colleen Geyer had some insight about Slalom and the consulting + SWE world in general. In a world where software engineering meets consulting, the revelation hit me hard: the art of translating a company's vision into executable tech language isn't just a skill; it's the bridge between worlds. 🌉 Dylan B. from LinkedIn opened my eyes to optimizing my LinkedIn presence. His tips? Gold dust for anyone looking to stand out to employers. (I'm sharing; just ask!) Thank you to all the guest speakers, Imagine, and everyone who came to the event to learn these valuable insights! It was great asking questions and talking to each speaker personally! 📣 For those at the crossroads of tech and consultancy, how do you navigate this fusion? Drop your insights below! #Consulting #LinkedIn #ContentCreation Will AI Make Software Engineers Obsolete? Jensen Huang, the visionary behind NVIDIA, made a bold statement: "Everybody in the world is now a programmer. This is the miracle of artificial intelligence." His advice? We might want to reconsider urging our kids to learn traditional coding due to the rapidly evolving tech landscape. Enter Devin, the latest AI marvel from Cognition designed to tackle software engineering tasks. The buzz? It's significant. But here's the twist - despite the hype, the demand for human software engineers hasn't waned. Devin's capabilities, though impressive, are still under scrutiny. Can it truly handle complex tasks, or is it merely a sophisticated debugging tool? My Take? AI and no-code platforms are reshaping the landscape, yes, but they're tools in our toolkit, not replacements. The essence of innovation, creativity, and problem-solving? Firmly human. Let's chat: 1. Will AI and no-code significantly shift the role of software engineers? 2. How can we leverage these technologies to augment, not replace, human ingenuity? #AIFuture #SoftwareEngineering #NoCodeRevolution #TechTalks Thinking about your first LinkedIn post? 🤔 Let's talk about that. Just yesterday, Keshav and I had this insightful chat about the "perfect first post" dilemma. And here's the truth: Many of us are caught in the loop of waiting for that perfect idea to hit us. But here's a better idea: Don’t wait for perfection. Dive in with something unique, something that’s yours. Your story doesn’t have to be groundbreaking, but it should be genuine. Whether it's a lesson learned, a challenge overcome, or simply an introduction to who you are and what you do. Remember, the only way to start is to actually start. 🚀 Your narrative is unique. Share it. Your insights are valuable. Voice them. So, what's holding you back from making your first post today? Let's conquer that first-post fear together. Feel free to share your first post ideas in the comments or DMs! I'll give you some feedback. And if you want feedback from other creators (and some top voices on LinkedIn 👀), consider joining ThinkedIn, a supportive creator network! #LinkedInTips #PersonalBranding #ContentCreation So glad to be a part of this community @ ThinkedIn! 🎉 I wanted to give a shoutout to a few of our members! 👏 And also, this hype and support group is open to the public for ambitious LinkedIn users!! 🚀 Link below! Fast forward to now, I'm surrounded by incredible friends and opportunities that I had never imagined. Yet, it wasn't a path paved with ease. 👣 Stepping into a new environment, I learned one invaluable lesson: To find your tribe, you must be willing to step out. My strategy? Diving headfirst into clubs and social circles, discovering that the zeal within these communities creates a vibe starkly different from the typical classroom setting. 💡 My Golden Nugget for Fellow Transfers (and really, anyone stepping into new territories): Don't let the fear of the unknown deter you. Engage, converse, and immerse yourself in environments that may initially feel out of your comfort zone. This is especially pivotal in fields where introversion is the norm, such as computer science. Standing out isn’t just about being different; it’s about being bravely you. ✨ Remember: Every significant change starts with that one bold step. Whether it's sparking up a conversation with a stranger or joining a club that piques your interest, these actions set the foundation for a journey filled with growth, discovery, and connections that could last a lifetime. 🚀 Are you a transfer student navigating this new chapter? I'd love to hear about your experiences and strategies that have made your transition smoother. Let's create a supportive community right here, right now! #TransferStudent #MichiganStateUniversity #Networking #GrowthMindset #StepOutOfYourComfortZone Yesterday, I had the distinct honor of attending TEDxMSU at the Wharton Center for Performing Arts. An experience I can only describe as profoundly impactful, it brought together an extraordinary group of visionaries whose stories and insights are shaping our world for the better. Among the remarkable speakers was Hon. Rosemarie Aquilina, known for her pivotal role in the USA Gymnastics sex abuse scandal case. Her bravery and commitment to justice allowed over 150 women to share their stories of abuse by the US Olympics gymnastics team doctor, Larry Nassar, paving the way for his sentence of 100+ years in prison. Judge Aquilina's message was clear and powerful: "Do not let fear rule your life, never back down because you are afraid." It’s a call to action for all of us to face our fears, challenge the status quo, and push beyond our comfort zones in pursuit of our goals. Let her message remind us that success is not devoid of fear, but rather, it’s about mastering the courage to confront and overcome it. As we forge ahead in our lives, let’s embody this spirit of bravery, using it as a catalyst for innovation, leadership, and meaningful change. Have you ever been inspired by someone's courage to speak out or take a stand? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences. #TEDxMSU #Inspiration #Courage #Justice #ProfessionalGrowth Thanks Gokul Sankaravadivelu! You're a very talented developer who has a ton of initiative and can learn quickly. I'm grateful to have you on my team. Spring Break Reimagined: My HackIllinois 2024 Adventure This spring break at Michigan State University, I swapped relaxation for innovation and headed to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign to attend HackIllinois 2024. It was there I met Muntasir Hossain, Aaron Zhang, and Selina Tang. We created Day2Day—a vision to revolutionize budgeting for students and new grads with a sleek, generative AI-driven web app. Our mission was clear: make a streamlined financial platform that uses your bank data to predict future spending on a day-to-day basis. The inspiration behind Day2Day and our collective efforts led us to be one of the finalists in our track out of a total event turnout of 500 people. I'm incredibly proud of what we accomplished at HackIllinois 2024. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this journey. A heartfelt thank you to my teammates and the organizers of HackIllinois! More details about Day2Day: https://lnkd.in/dUrifTWC #HackIllinois2024 #Innovation #Teamwork #AI #BudgetingTool #finalists This week marked a significant milestone for the Imagine Software Club at MSU, where my incredible team and I showcased the progress of RecycleMe during the club's beta presentations. RecycleMe is not just any mobile app; it's a vision brought to life over the past two months. By simply snapping a photo, users can quickly determine the recyclability of items, bridging the gap between technology and environmental sustainability. But that's not all – the app serves as an educational tool, enlightening users about the nuances of recycling and encouraging eco-friendly practices. Watching each team member step into the spotlight, articulately sharing their contributions, challenges, and the journey so far, was nothing short of inspiring. The dedication, creativity, and resilience displayed by everyone involved have been the driving force behind the project's success, and I couldn't be prouder. A heartfelt shoutout to Mohamed Ahmed, Siddarth Akalankam, Lewi A., Gokul Sankaravadivelu, and Kaustubh Siriki for their unwavering commitment and hard work throughout this semester. Your efforts have transformed an idea into a tangible solution with the potential to make a real difference. Additionally, I extend my gratitude to Areeb Islam for his exemplary co-leadership and profound technical expertise that significantly propelled our project forward. Last but certainly not least, immense thanks to Zane Aridi. Without his support and the opportunity to collaborate with a talented group of developers from the Imagine Software Club at MSU, this journey would not have been possible. Here's to making the world a greener place, one photo at a time! 🌎💚 #RecycleMe #Sustainability #Innovation #Teamwork #MSU #ImagineSoftwareClub I made a quick article about types vs interfaces in typescript. Feel free to check it out to learn something new! TL;DR: This article talks about the differences between TypeScript's `Type` and `Interface`, crucial for project maintainability, scalability, and debugging. Interfaces allow for easy extension through merging, which can be both powerful and risky, potentially leading to hard-to-track bugs in large codebases. Types, by contrast, are immutable, promoting deliberate modifications, thus minimizing unexpected bugs. The article also discusses developer experience, highlighting how IntelliSense performs better with types, providing clearer property insights, and addresses the debate on error handling and performance, challenging the common belief that interfaces offer clearer error messages. Ultimately, the choice between `Type` and `Interface` significantly affects coding style, code evolution, and debugging strategies, underscoring the importance of understanding their differences for robust, maintainable code. Alongside Wyat Soule, we landed in the top 0.1%, ranking 4th out of a formidable lineup. A statistic that on the surface, positions us among the elite estimators at MSU! 🏆✨ But here's a twist - our claim to the top 0.1% isn't just about our performance. It's also a lesson in the power of perspective and the interpretation of data. By considering "prospective" competitors, we estimated participation based on the number of students majoring in Math, Finance, and Computer Science, totaling around 4,000 currently. So, yes, technically, we did make it to the top 0.1%, albeit with a creative approach to competitor eligibility! 😉 This experience was not just an academic victory but a practical demonstration of how data can be framed. In a world brimming with statistics and claims, it’s a reminder to look beyond the numbers and seek the story they tell. As enticing as it is to accept data at face value, the real skill lies in questioning its origin and interpretation. Let's take this as a nudge to remain curious, critically evaluate information, and appreciate the nuances in data. After all, in the age of information, being a discerning reader is as crucial as any academic accomplishment. P.S. Thanks for the awesome shirts Jane Street! 🙌 #DataLiteracy #CriticalThinking #Estimathon #JaneStreet #QuantitativeFinance #misinformation #information 🚀 Ready to unleash your creativity and coding skills? 🌐 Explore exciting challenges at SpartaHack 9 in this year's tracks. 💻 Whether you're a seasoned pro or a coding enthusiast, there's a challenge for everyone! 🌟
