Let's deep dive! • RBI has 822.1 metric tonnes (8,220 tonnes) of gold out of which 413.79 tonnes of gold is overseas while 100.28 tonnes are held in India • If we think from a broader perspective, we will get a clear understanding- Russia is struggling after the US and EU have blocked Russia's foreign reserves of around $300 billion • Hence, the RBI has taken this action as a precautionary measure to protect our country from any such crisis • This move would also benefit India by saving the storage fees the country has to pay to the Bank of England • This move enhances the country's gold reserve, offering a stronger buffer against global economic uncertainties • By housing gold within domestic borders, India aims to safeguard its assets against geopolitical risks and ensure quicker accessibility • This also signals the RBI's belief in the stability of the Indian economy What do you think about RBI's decision to repatriate gold? Currently, SBI Payments is a joint venture between State Bank of India and Hitachi Payments Services Private Limited, with SBI holding a 74% stake and the remaining held by Hitachi. Stripe is keen on acquiring a 30%-40% stake held by SBI. The deal is anticipated to be carried out through Stripe’s Indian subsidiary, Stripe India Private Limited, which obtained an RBI license to operate as an online payment aggregator in January 2024.
